The Veil Nebula
The Veil nebula in the constellation of Cygnus is a supernova remnant that is a favorite of amateur astronomers perhaps because of the complex and wispy detail visible in moderate to larger telescopes. This picture shows a 5 degree wide section of the sky where north is to the left. You will see many very fine and dim threads of this nebula extending far to the right of the picture if you look carefully. The nebula emits red for the hydrogen alpha emissions and a blue-green glow for the oxygen III emissions. Be sure to see the higher resolution detailed composite picture using your right arrow key.
