The California Nebula is a large nebula which as you may guess resembles the state of California. In the fall and winter months this nebula can be observed in the southeast section of the constellation of Perseus using a special H-Beta filter and even a modest sized telescope. This picture shows a color as well as high contrast black and white image of a 3 degree field from top (west) to bottom (east) with the bright, slightly green, star of called Menkib to the right in this picture.
