Widefield of M11 Area
This large starfield shows a 5x4 degree section of the night sky and may not be as 'pretty' as other images on this site but this is an interesting area for summertime binocular viewing. The cluster M11 is the very bright group of stars just below and to the right of the center. The entire lower part of the picture you will notice a very concentrated star cloud covering the picture especially to the lower right quadrant and this is the top of the Scutum star cloud. Just above M11 and about a half of the height of the picture in size is a complex grouping of dark nebula or 'soot in space' that gives the appearance of a large but dark crescent moon that opens to the left. This large dark nebula complex is Barnard 111. Finally spanning the entire upper left part of the picture is a wonderfully colorful broad open 'C' opening to the upper right. From a dark sky all of these 5 stars can be seen as a small 'C' shape.
