Pickerings Triangular Wisp

Pickerings Triangular Wisp

In the summer constellation of Cygnus lies the Veil Nebula complex that is a favorite target for both visual and photographic astronomers and can be seen in full in a different picture on this website. Shown here in this 1.5 degree field of view is Pickering's Triangle which is a target that gets less attention and lies between the popular eastern and western veil. This highly ornate weave of different emission colors is part of an ancient supernova remnant. The red cloudy structures here are from excited hydrogen glow and the teal color is excited oxygen emissions where together they form a complex pattern.
