Rosette Nebula

Rosette Nebula

The Rosette Nebula is a fairly large and complex nebula that resembles a rose in this 1.5 degree view. The nebula surrounds the hot star cluster called Ngc2244 seen mostly in the center of the rose. The nebula itself is designated as Ngc2237 or often as Sh2-275 and fades off to very low levels gradually. The Rosette is a favorite of visual as well as imaging astronomers and is best seen in winter.
