Lagoon Nebula Area

Lagoon Nebula Area

The Lagoon nebula, designated as M8, is a very large and bright object located in the southern constellation of Sagittarius. Along with M8, shown in the lower right, is the Trifid nebula, M20, in the upper right. The M21 open cluster of stars lies high above and just to the left of M20. A much fainter set of 6 or more objects with IC1275 at the center shows to the middle left of the frame as a complex area made up of bright and dark patterns. If you look carefully you may detect two more large, faint nebula filling the gap between M8 and M20. This is indeed a very busy 3 degree wide section of the night sky with dark and bright nebula as well as several star clusters.
